The Perks of Transition Season Family Travel! One family's adventure to the Town of the Blue Mountains...

We are please to post our first family travel in Ontario review. This review is written by Teresa Jankowski. T and her family recently took advantage of some great spring deals in the Town of The Blue Mountains at beautiful Blue Mountain Resort. Below are tips and stories about their adventure!

I scream, you scream, how do I get some?
About Teresa: Teresa Jankowski is a stay-at-home Mom at large in the GTA.  Her Bachelor of Journalism and Ontario Teacher certification were no training what-so-ever for keeping up with her two energetic boys!  Some joking aside, a pair of good walking shoes, patience, and a resourceful mind have been helpful!  The kids do best with lots of activity and fresh air, so we often explore north of the GTA!

Blue Mountain Resort is a perfect vacation choice for families.  Even when the events and festivities have not started— pre-summer and mid-week still have so much to offer!

I have to admit, I was hesitant to write this because I feel like I’ve found my family’s little vacation gem— and would kind of like to keep it to myself.  But, I also feel for all the parents out there who are challenged with entertaining their little ones while also trying to have a vacation themselves.

We stayed in a family friendly accommodation in BlueMountain Village.  It was perfect for putting the little ones to bed in one room, and staying up later in the other.  There was a full kitchen which needless to say was a must have for toddler 7 a.m. breakfasts, hot snacks, chilled wine, or a hot cup of tea.

Even in pre-season when temperatures are iffy, many of the hotels at Blue have heated outdoor pools and hot tubs.  I was also so impressed by Plunge! AquaticCentre located in the centre of the village.  It is a partially indoors water park suitable for a range of ages.  Even our two-year-old was not left out!  They have climbers, slides, and swinging ropes for the older ones.  The water is nice and warm and there is even a jet bubble area of the pool.  Take advantage of the lower entrance fees during pre-season.  Hours are reduced, but so are the crowds!

Great hiking trails for families!
Restaurants, pubs, and stores are still open pre-season.  Hubby can make a late night poutine run—for wifey, or treat yourselves to a delicious family meal.  Blue Mountain Village has everything from Greek fare at Tholos, to sushi at Kikaku, and more traditional pizzas and steaks.  There is a Sunset Grill in the village and even a Pita Pit for a quick fix.
As soon as the kids get restless you can take a walk in the village or go to the playground in the centre of the village.  My youngest was especially impressed by the sandboxes, digging toys, and trucks.

The great thing about Blue Mountain and the Collingwood, Georgian Bay area, is that you can hike almost anywhere (the Bruce Trail runs through it) and beaches are within a 30 minute drive.  Scenic Caves Nature Adventures just outside the village, and the village’s Crock A Doodle pottery studio are just some of the other kid-friendly activities that are too numerous to mention!

Never too young to appreciate a great vista!
Here is a fellow Mommy tip:  send your hubby and kids adventuring while you go to the Scandinave Spa.  Just a five minute drive from Blue Mountain Village, for about $50 you can spend the afternoon soaking in baths, and basking in the sauna and steam room all under a canopy of trees. Hammocks and Muskoka chairs around bonfires await you and your favourite book.

Well, so much for keeping a secret. The Blue Mountains and Collingwood are really an outstanding family getaway area no matter the season.
