Weekend Family Fun Guide North of Toronto for March 21-23

Enjoy winter now, before it's gone. No we're not crazy but those hoping for spring should hold on just a little bit yet. Areas north of Toronto still look and feel like winter and include fun seasonal transition activities. Seasonal transition activities include enjoying outdoor winter sports with longer days, warmer temps and more sunshine! They also include spring fun with maple festivals and celebrations. Basically, it's the best of best worlds offering parents a variety of activities thatkids of all ages should love.

Family looking to get away after the flurry of March Break, can still find really fun getaway packages are your kids' favorite resort destinations.

These events are within 1-3 hours north of Toronto and are reasonable when considering a day trip, or stay at any family friendly accommodation and extend the fun. These events would also be within proximity or close to many of Ontario's 'cottage country'.

March 1 - May 31

March 23-23 - McLean Berry Farm
At Maplefest, there are a tons of fun activities for the entire family. Whether it's going for a wagon ride, eating pancakes with fresh maple syrup or seeing how the sweet stuff is made, there is something to do for everyone!!

TASTE THE COUNTY
March 21-23 - Prince Edward County
It's time to celebrate the first harvest of the spring in Prince Edward County – MAPLE SYRUP! Bring the whole family for a fun-filled weekend full of pancake breakfasts, maple syrup demonstrations, lumberjack shows, petting zoos, live music, and more.

SNOW VALLEY RESORT

A variety of activities await you this Winter season at Horseshoe Resort's Adventure Park such as snow tubing and fat biking!



HARDWOOD SKI AND BIKE
Hardwood is a full service nordic ski centre providing trails for all levels of  skiers or snowshoers. They are open seven days a week and offer rentals, retail nordic ski, lessons, cafe and children's programs.


* SATURDAY SPRING FLING & SALOMON RACES *
Skiers of all ages and abilities can participate. The morning consists of more serious events (only slightly serious), but the afternoon is dedicated to just having a good time. Mixed relays, lunch, costume contest, poker ski, and mini-poker ski. Bring the family and enjoy these fantastic March trail conditions.

SCENIC CAVES NORDIC CENTRE
Winter activities include groomed cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and traversing 420 feet over Southern Ontario’s longest suspension bridge. See natural Ontario forrest as a beautiful winter wonderland!

* Spring Fever Specials at Scenic Caves Nordic Centre *
March 18 – April 6, 2014 (weather permitting) March into spring on cross-country skis or snowshoes with discount rates for trail passes and equipment rentals. Children under six are FREE. Trail passes are just $10 on weekdays and $15 for weekends (weather-permitting). Check out our end of season sale of gently used skis and snowshoes. Don’t be ‘fooled by April’…there’s still plenty of snow to enjoy!

March 22, 29 and April 5, 2014 (weather permitting) As the sun sinks below the horizon and the afterglow of daylight slowly fades into twilight, sunset is a magical time of day to strap on your snowshoes. Enjoy a quiet early evening tour to witness the daily spectacle of the spring sky ablaze in a stunning array of colours. Catch a glimpse of wildlife busy with their evening feeding routines. Professional staff members guide your group on a 1 ½ to 2 hour romp through a shimmering landscape beginning at 6pm. Experience beautiful trails that wind through a mature forest of 100 foot tall trees, magnificent views of the countryside from the Suspension Bridge and breathtaking lookouts from the top of the Niagara Escarpment. No experience is required and the pace is moderate. Recommended for ages 8-10 and older.
 
SKIING & ATTRACTION PARK BLUE MOUNTAIN RESORT

Undeniably one of the most entertainment filled days of the winter season is happening this Saturday March 22, 2014 when participants (many in creative costumes) attempt to cross Lake Sir Sam's on skis, boards & even in boats! Event starts at 2:00 p.m. followed by dinner & dance, featuring Stephanie Gregg Band at 5:00 p.m . Must be 19 yrs of age to attend evening events. *Please note menu change : Now serving steak-on-a-bun & salads.Prizes for costumes . Ducky race: Purchase a rubber ducky for a 50/50 cash prize.
