Weekend Family Fun Guide North of Toronto for November 1-3

November is here! The whirlwind days of Fall are coming to end. The last of the leaves are hanging on as long as they can to the branches, perhaps we are too. As we get through Halloween and while there have been a few dustings (and more in some areas!) of snow, we will plan ahead for the immediate future, uncertain as it is weather wise. Any parent knows, be prepared and this time of year that means being prepared for cold or warm and having toques and mitts handy!

Happy Halloween!
Santa Claus is comin' to every town! No matter your holiday beliefs, a kid's Christmas Holiday Tradition includes a Santa Claus parade (or more than one!). From here on in until about mid-December, you can catch a Santa Claus Parade every weekend in small cities and towns north of Toronto. Parades usually have a theme and are a great family event to attend. Some parades coincide with annual holiday tree lightings, complete with caroles and hot chocolate! You can also visit our website if you're more in the mood for shopping, as craft shows and holiday bazaars also begin to appear in the calendar this weekend.

It Begins!

Weekend Family Fun Guide North of Toronto for October 25-27

Events and activities a-plenty this weekend in resort areas north of Toronto including several very popular Halloween events. Being that we are now past Thanksgiving, there is most definitely a shorter list of activities and attractions until the winter gets here. But that does not mean there is little to do! Tips for Families on the Thanksgiving Holiday Road Trip!

If there were any holiday where the family road trip was less painful, it would be Thanksgiving. The fall colours, the warm air and swirling leaves on the road are very pretty and make the ride more tolerable. The reality of a holiday long weekend for many means a road trip, and 411 Ontario Kids would like to help make that travel part a little better for everyone so we've come up with a few tips to help make a holiday away from home easier and more fun!
Smiles for Everyone!

1. Properly prepare for the car ride. No matter the age of your kids, from babes to tots to teens, there are some things you can do to make the car trip better for everyone. Be sure to read out ROAD TRIP TIPS and I'm sure you will find something to help keep the ride smooth!

2. If your kids are small and like crafts, perhaps they can do a craft ahead of time and bring it as a gift for your host. Even if you are staying at a resort or hotel, surely the staff would love a special Thanksgiving drawing or desk decoration from their little guests! We suggest having them colour a picture or make something else that is small and easy to travel.

3. If you're not in a home setting for the big meal and are at a restaurant, plan ahead and bring something from home to make the table more home-y. We suggest having your kids make up name cards for the place settings or create a centrepiece. It's also a craft activity they can do a few days prior to your trip.

Seriously, are we there yet??
4. Mix things up and make it an adventure. Do you really need to take the car or would your family have more fun (and be more relaxed!) on a plane, train or bus? Make the travelling itself part of the adventure! This could take some of the stress out of the trip for the parents and be alot more fun. Are your kids older or teens? They might enjoy this change from the regular same old same old.

Family Fun Guide North of Toronto for October 4-6

Rain or shine, it's the time of year that road trips are mandatory! In no time at all, the Christmas rush will be here and then the snow fun begins. So don't let a few showers stop your family from exploring new or familiar areas in search of wholesome fun on the weekends. If you're lucky those raincoats and boots will stay packed in the trunk and you will enjoy a nice sunny weekend in the extremely colourful resort areas north of Toronto.

Let the kids take pictures too! Say "Wow"!

Do you ever wonder how your child sees the world? Let them use your camera, take a few pictures, you'd be surprised and amazed how many great shots a child can get while letting you in a little to their world. By all means, don't give them your most expensive and best camera or let them run off to with it but depending on your child, let have do what they are able to. It will also give them a sense of responsibility and make them look at their surroundings in different ways.

The next long weekend is less than two weeks away. In no time at all we will be spending time with family and friends and enjoying a grand Thanksgiving meal. A 3 day weekend is an opportunity to get out and about on day trips or parents may even consider a  no-work kind of Thanksgiving with a 2 or 3 day weekend getaway that includes the turkey and all the fixings...including a dishwasher!

The trees are still holding onto their colourful leaves and we know this is not always the kids things-to-do priority so we've coloured coded the blog so that parents will know which kids activities also include really unique views and locations to see the fall colours. Event Descriptions with orange text are events or activities that have the added bonus of a stellar view of one of Ontario's best shows of the year.

We \put together a MUST-DO list of fall activities for kids. If you're looking for a short list of what will really makes the kids happy, you can read that article here: Must-Do Fall Activities for Kids
